Maryland’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans and Programs

Shifting mode choice towards transit and active transportation, and shortening automobile trips and increasing carpooling, are critical components to building efficient, equitable, and sustainable cities, and is also essential to accommodating Maryland’s changing demographic composition. Register for the weekly WALKTOBER MDOT in Motion Webinars!

MDOT in Motion is a series of webinars, interactive sessions, and educational opportunities offered by the Maryland Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Office of Active Transportation and Micromobility. The series highlights multi-modal projects and programs that are designed to get Marylanders moving safely, and to connect them to opportunities and to each other. In Maryland, Complete Streets is the deliberate approach to planning and designing streets for all users, MDOT in Motion demonstrates opportunities to make options like walking, biking, and transit more accessible.

October in Maryland becomes WALKTOBER, a month where the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other partnering agencies host events spotlighting Maryland pedestrians' safety, health, and commuting options in current walk programs and Initiatives. In celebration, MDOT in Motion will feature WEEKLY “walkinar” throughout October. Walkinars are intended to help planners, local officials, walking advocates, and the public at large make walking safer throughout the state and identify resources to strengthen local partnerships and technologies being used across the country to plan for walkability for all ages and abilities. Walktober webinars take place every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST and require registration for each Walkinar.

Creating Infrastructure to Better Connect All Marylanders to Opportunities and Each Other is a core mission of Governor Moore and Lt. Governor Miller administration; this webinar series is supported by MDOT's fellow state agency, the Maryland Department of Planning.
