Social Media Policy

This memorandum constitutes the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Social Media Use Policy (the “Policy”). Given the evolving nature of social media and the laws and regulations that govern social media, the Maryland Department of Transportation reserves the right to amend this Policy at any time. The Maryland Department of Transportation will notify the public of any changes to this Policy, which shall be posted on the Agency’s website.

The Policy

This Policy Establishes a Social Media disclaimer for users of MDOT social media platforms

MDOT reserves the right to hide, remove or delete posts, comments, pictures and any media considered to be:

Material that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, slanderous, hateful or criminal to any other entity
Third party advertising
Chain letters or ‘spam’
That violate the intellectual property rights of others

MDOT Office of Communications/Public Affairs staff members who are designated to manage MDOT social media accounts can block users who repeatedly violate the Social Media Disclaimer.

This Policy applies to users of the following Social Media Accounts:
