MDOT prevents pollution through employee and contractor training, and green electronics purchasing, use, and disposal. Pollution prevention preserves natural resources and improves air quality and water quality. Conforming with legal requirements ensures MDOT “delivers safe, sustainable, intelligent, and exceptional transportation solutions.
Recycling reduces waste, creates recycling jobs, preserves landfill space, saves energy, reduces water pollution, and conserves natural resources. MDOT addresses environmental sustainability through electronics recycling and purchasing and has received recognition for its efforts. Green Electronics Council (GEC) for the procurement of sustainable IT products.
MDOT received a Silver Partner Award in 2017 and 2018 from the State Electronics Challenge (SEC) for MDOT's outstanding work in electronics stewardship.
