MDOT prevents pollution through employee and contractor training, and green electronics purchasing, use, and disposal. Pollution prevention preserves natural resources and improves air quality and water quality. Recycling reduces waste, creates recycling jobs, preserves landfill space, saves energy, reduces water pollution, and conserves natural resources. MDOT addresses environmental sustainability through electronics recycling and purchasing and has received recognition for its efforts. MDOT has received multiple EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Purchaser Awards from the Global Electronics Council (GEC) for the procurement of sustainable IT products.
