Transportation Secretary Slater Statement
on Fatal Work Zone Crash Overnight
Secretary Urges Motorists to Look Out for Each Other
HANOVER, MD – Following the fatal work zone crash overnight that killed 34-year-old Christopher Marsden and injured two co-workers, Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Greg Slater today issued the following statement:
“With all we have going on in the world today with our health crisis and the economy, I am angered and deeply saddened by the fact that another transportation worker lost their life overnight. Christopher Marsden was simply trying to do his job! Let's be clear, too many injuries and fatalities in work zones are completely preventable.
“When you drive through a work zone…
SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!
“When you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road…
MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!
“When you see a disabled vehicle on the side of the road…
MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!
“When you see someone walking along the road…
MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!
“When you see someone biking along the road…
MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!
“It's really that simple, look out for each other. Today, when you are out there, think of Mr. Marsden. I SURE WILL. My heartfelt prayers are with him, his family, his co-workers and all transportation workers today. Please join me in remembering him."
