Initiatives Collect Medications to Reduce Risk for Substance Misuse

GLEN BURNIE, MD (October 21, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Police will participate in National Prescription Drug Takeback Day on Saturday, October 24 beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m. The MVA Glen Burnie Branch will be one of dozens of sites across Maryland serving as a drop-off location for the one-day event.

During National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and its partners across the country collect tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs. They will also collect over-the-counter medications and pet medications. According to the DEA, Take Back Day has removed more than 20.4 million pounds (10,200 tons) of medication from circulation since it began in 2016, to help prevent drug misuse and abuse.

Customers looking to dispose of old, unwanted or expired prescription medications can drop them off at the collection box manned by officers inside  MVA Glen Burnie Branch Building A. All items collected will be destroyed according to federal guidelines.
