(HANOVER, MD – May 4, 2022) – In an effort to reach out to Hispanic-owned businesses, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is offering a free application assistance workshop for certification as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) and/or Small Business Enterprise (SBE).
The Spanish-language workshop, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, is part of the Hogan Administration's “Maryland is Open for Business" initiative. The session will cover the application and investigation process, core eligibility standards and the benefits of the certification process. The workshop is a result of our partnership with the Alliance for Hispanic Commercial Contractors (AHCC), which leads the Spanish workshops.
The workshop will be held virtually via Zoom. For more information, contact Vanessa Lopez at 443-324-6854 or Vashti Pyatt at 410-865-1394. In fiscal years 2018-2020, Maryland awarded more than $449 million in contracts to MDOT-certified Hispanic American-owned businesses. There are 859 Hispanic American-owned businesses in MDOT's online directory of certified MBE, DBE, ACDBE and SBE firms.
MDOT is the official certification agency for the state of Maryland. Firms meeting the standards set forth in state and federal law are eligible for MBE, DBE, ACDBE and/or SBE certification. MDOT's comprehensive certification process ensures that bona fide disadvantaged or minority-owned firms receive the MBE, DBE, ACDBE, and/or SBE designation in support of the state's minority business inclusion efforts.
