Festive Traditions Connect Communities, Brighten Commutes
BALTIMORE, MD (December 1, 2025) The Maryland Transit Administration is celebrating the holidays this season with a festively decorated bus and trains while also bringing back an updated train garden at the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station. For the 47th year in a row, the beloved Holiday Bus will offer free rides, festive fun and a sweet treat this season. Beginning Monday, December 1, and continuing through Friday, December 19, the specially decorated Holiday Bus will operate on different local bus routes throughout the metropolitan Baltimore region.
The Holiday Bus will help launch Baltimore into the merry mood with an appearance at the 52nd Mayor's Christmas Parade at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 14. In addition to the Holiday Bus, the agency will also roll out a specially decorated light rail train and metro subway car.
“Transit connects people to the places and moments that matter most," said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “Transit is the most affordable and safest way to get around this holiday season."
The Holiday Bus will operate on different CityLink and LocalLink bus routes weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Passengers of all ages are invited to hop on board, receive a free candy cane and enjoy a free holiday music-filled ride to their destination. Riders can easily find the Holiday Bus by looking for the sleigh icon on the Transit app, which provides real-time information for all
fixed-route services. For clues on where the Holiday Bus will be located, customers can also follow the Maryland Transit Administration on social media at

Located at the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station on the Mezzanine Level and built by Maryland Transit Administration employee volunteers, the Train Garden has delighted Baltimore residents and guests for decades. The Train Garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Friday, January 2. The agency will hold “Sundays with Santa" at the Train Garden Sunday, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 14 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
In addition to the miniature subway train that travels through a cityscape and neighborhoods, this year the Train Garden has been enhanced by the addition of the Polar Express train set, inspired by the book and movie of the same name, a racetrack, fast-food restaurant and a fire station. Visitors can take part in the interactive display by pushing buttons that make objects inside the train garden come to life.
